Fear of Friday the 13th!
Paraskevidekatriaphobics — people afflicted
with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the
13th — are no doubt pricking up their ears
just now, buoyed by evidence that their fears
may not be so irrational after all.
The sixth day of the week and the number 13
both have foreboding reputations said to date
from ancient times; their inevitable
conjunction from one to three times a year
portends more misfortune than some credulous
minds can bear.

It's Friday the 13th,
but not to worry
TODAY is Friday the 13th,
the first Friday the 13th of the millennium, a double-whammy of a day
fraught with wicked omens. Where does it come from -- the fear of 13?
Connecticut University Psychology professor Stuart Vyse, the author of
"Believing in Magic: The Psychology of Superstition," agreed to set
aside his fear of reporters and answer a few questions to debunk the
day. At least that's the way the conversation started ...
