Dengue ‘Sweeps’ Begin in Sardinal and El Coco
With the goal of eliminating as many of the breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry dengue fever as possible, more than 200 volunteers met last Feb. 8 in Sardinal and El Coco to go house by house and collect solid waste and also encourage neighbors to clean up their yards and other common areas — the most effective way to reduce the risk of contracting this viral disease.

Bilingual Job Fair Looking To Hire 3.500
The Coalición Costarricense de Iniciativas de Desarrollo (CINDE) - the The Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency - will be holding its job fair on February 20, 21 and 22, where 3.500 jobs will be offered by 27 companies like Sykes, Western Union,Amazon.com, Citi,  and Fujitsu.

Costa Rica Banana Growers Overcoming Tough 2008
Climate change and flooding conspired to make life tough for banana producers in Costa Rica last year. An Estimated 1 Million Dogs Live On The Streets
In Costa Rica is not unusual to see dogs roaming the streets and breaking garbage bags in search for food. According to the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal (Senasa), there are about 1 million street dogs in the country. And that is despite laws that regulate the breeding, the mistreatment and abandonment of animals.

Nearly Half of Costa Rica Prison Inmates Taking Classes
Next week some 3,600 of Costa Rica's 8,000 inmates will begin the 2009 school course, in which they will be given elementary, high school, university or art classes, Costa Rica's ministra de Justicia said Friday.

Panama Canal Forecasts Drop Due To Recession
Panama  - The Panama Canal Authority has forecast a 5 per cent drop in cargo tonnage going through the waterway in the 2008-09 fiscal year as cargo transit has been badly hit by the ongoing economic crisis, EFE reported on Tuesday.
