Epsy Campbell seems never to have heard the word ‘impossible’. She made her first incursion into the world of politics during the Costa Rican presidential elections in February 2002, when her election as a deputy to the National Assembly made her the fourth Afro-Costa Rican woman to occupy a parliamentary seat. In the coming weeks, Epsy is expected to seek the PAC presidential nomination to be not only the first woman president of Costa Rica, but the first black woman president.
