Destiny ------- What of it?

Better yet, What is it? What is pre-destined for everyone? Preordained is our demise, our final breath or final heartbeat. It cannot be avoided! What is not preordained, scheduled, programmed, part of the curriculum, the agenda of life, is our lifestyle and the path we take thru life, it’s in our hands. We are not the masters of the course outline of our early education, but soon thereafter we become ‘old enough’ to choose our future.

This morning on Larry King Live is an excerpt about Elizabeth Smart, the little Salt Lake City girl, kidnapped for 9 months and now found with a drifter.

Another person, Richard Ricci was put in prison for this crime, sentenced to his early death by the press. He was never charged formally for the kidnapping but he died, in prison, ‘accused’ [but never convicted] of a crime he did not commit.

Mr. Ricci, a handyman, just happened to be working at the abode of little Elizabeth. Because of his appearance/profile he was detained and the media [court TV] hyped the story so much that he was deemed guilty before any real courtroom had been chosen. He, a homeless person had been hired supposedly to help him out a little and was for sure in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He did admit to pilfering some small items and because of his appearance and demeanor he was held in prison. Public opinion convicted him of this ‘crime against humanity’; his pleas for a new trial and reopening of the case went unheard.

Was this his destiny, an inevitable  happening?

Was it his choice of the path of lifestyle  to blame?

Certainly it was say the people that sentenced him to his early demise.

Now that someone else has been  arrested has any one of them apologized for this horrendous mistake?

Was it preordained that he would die in prison?

What of the religious belief that God is our constant partner in life,     the  controller of destiny, the final word in our destiny?

Is it because of this outlook that I am here in my apartment right now and not in Fort Lauderdale?

Personally I believe in myself, I believe none other than me charts my destiny. I am the controller of my outlook on life and I choose where I live and when I change things. I am bound only by law and nature to do what is acceptable and to live in a way not offensive to others. Harsh words say the religious zealots!

Is that a truism, a statement of decided truth?

What of the dreams we have during our respite from the days tumult? Are those thoughts our own or are they somehow a message from some higher power that controls our destiny?

Do we remember those ‘messages’ in some remote part of our psyche; somewhere that changes our final outlook and responses to stimuli?

If so, are we in control of our lives? Are we at fault in times of severe stress, are we to blame if we lash out in pain and cause some adverse reactions in our environment?

We are pre-programmed by accepted methods all of our juvenile years, those times according to the courts are the domain of other than ourselves and ‘they’ are responsible for our adverse actions. We become ‘our own person’ at puberty? We don’t have an inkling of real life or the instincts to promote one before we are called ‘adult’? If there is a God, a Superior Being, or Force to be reckoned with at some later date, where is he/it during those years of upbringing?

Why is it ‘our problem’ when we falter, why is it not the fault of our mentors, the forces that have chosen our destiny?

A doctor in the states predicted that my maximum available lifetime was 2 years because of my advanced emphysema. I moved to Costa Rica and now the prediction has changed to 20! Is that called ‘divine intervention’ or did I change my destiny?

Please tell me! What think ye?
