Lost in Time

I have been sitting here since dawn working on my new website (DosRios.us).

The work involved in getting everything “just right” used to be a very simple task. I could easily do my changes and send them to the server instantly in order to view things live on the ‘net. Right now, from my abode things are not that easy. I have no phone line to plug into and no cable to connect a cable modem. Both systems are applied for but the “normal” waiting periods have not elapsed as of yet.

I make my changes and new pages, view them on my computer to edit and change them until I’m satisfied with the look and feel of things, then, copy the website to a disk, then, got next door to the Internet café and wait for a computer to become available.

Now that I’ve sequestered (sometimes I have to fight to get my turn) a mode of connection I can continue my attempt of doing business on today’s internet. I even had to “sneak install” some programs in order to use those computers for my website work.

The new programming gets sent to the server (I use an FTP “file transfer protocol”  program to transfer the saved information to my allocated space on a internet connected computer “server”  located in Ft. Lauderdale) and then I can connect to the website to view my ides and changes on-line and make notations for more changes as needed. This abuse of time and space goes on until I get the end result I need. Before moving to this office/apartment I was be able to do it from my own desk within minutes, now it’s a couple of hours at least before my ideas hit the net!

Simple things like registering a new domain name that used to be a five-minute ordeal becomes a major problem also from an Internet Café. The security “proxy server” systems they use will not allow some of the programming used in the process.

The domain name service people require an active email address on your own computer connection for communication of credit card payments, and the information regarding that email address is listed as your place of contact. SO, when I tried to register my new name I was not successful because of the hotmail email address I am forced to use temporally.

I was finally successful only by being a royal pain-in-the-a$$, and my pal Donna got it all done for me. In between her own website (amjr.com) businesses and family stuff to work around she accomplished everything in record time. Thanks for being there and thanks for helping me out guys!

My landlord informed me this week that she has sold this property to a corporation that is eventually going to force me to move out of their new office complex!

The apartment/office I am now in is perfect for my needs as far as price and location ……

I am going to have a real difficult task ahead of me finding a suitable replacement in the price range I need and this time I guess I should move somewhere the stuff is already installed.

Life’s a bitch sometimes
