"My
Lucky Pen"
Every time I
pick it up it has significance. It is
not just a tool to write with, it is an
anchor of faith.
If I do not
use it correctly, it will bring me bad
luck,
if I use it
consciously, it will bestow upon me
great fortune and good times.
But I have
to remember to use it! I want to
keep it safe and preserve it
but that is
not what pens are made for.
They need to
be used and that is when they work best.
But I do not
want it to run out. Because that brings
bad luck as well.
So, what do
I do? I need to find the perfect balance
between use and rest
and make it
last as long as possible.
And thus I
will extend the duration of my good
fortune to its highest level.
There, piece
of cake...thing is, I have more than one
pen like this.
It is also a
"lucky" writing instrument and
for the same reasons as it colleague.
How long can
I keep the other without using it?
Does it have
a shelve life?
Will it go
bad?
Maybe I need
to put them both to work, alternating
their use.
Things to
decide, and how does one schedule this?
How does one
come into possession of a
"lucky" pen? Or, in my case;
two "lucky" pens?
The blunt
answer to this is superstition.
You have to
suffer from that.
It is not
exactly supported by clean, Judean
Christian believes
and lacks
the religious foundation that comes with
these kind of faiths, but it can be
comforting.
The strange
thing is, I am not superstitious at all.
I walk under ladders all the time,
pat black
cats whenever I can, regardless of their
direction,
I sit
relaxed in the thirteenth row of any
airliner, stay on thirteenth floors
without any worries
and break
mirrors as a pastime.
So, what is
it with this damn pen? Well, the source
is the reason.
These pens
were given to me when I least expected
it and they were accompanied by a
calendar.
Both carried
religious writings, one in English and
one in Spanish.
The
inscriptions did not mean much to
me
but the
time and the place where I received
these gifts are very significant.
It was
around Christmas, three years ago.
In an
office on the second floor of Mall San
Pedro in San Jose.
