Crocodile Eats 13 Year Old Boy in Cañas
The residents of Bebedero de Cañas saw their lives shattered yesterday afternoon when a 13 year old boy was attacked and eaten by a 3.5 metre (12 foot) crocodile, in sight of his friends and uncle, while the boy swam in the river.

It was 2pm, when the animal was spotted some 200 metres from the bullring of Bebedero de Cañas. According area residents, the boys were playing by the river bank when Guevara, the last of the boys in the river, as trapped by the reptile.

Érick Alexánder Guevara Pazos, has no chance. Witnesses say the animal grabbed the boy by the neck, turned the boy over several times and then just consumed him.

Following the attack, the reptile came out of the river and only the boys' extremeties were seen. Residents shot at the animal to force it to let go of the boy, but it disappeared into the river with the boy.

The Fuerza Publica (police) received reports of having seen the animal about 1/2 kilometre from where the attack occurred and coordinated efforts with the Liberia detachment in the hopes of trapping the animal, which still has not occurred.

The Bebedero rivers begins at the Arenal and flows through Cañas and ends at the Tempisque river, in Guanacaste.
