Pacheco To Travel First Class to the Orient
Between August 11 and 22, President Abel Pacheco will be in Taiwan and Japan in a visit to the Orient.

The visit to Taiwan by the president is an official one, while in Japan he will participate in a meeting of the Central American residents and Japanese officials, to discuss investment in Tourism.

For medical reasons, president Pacheco will be travelling first class which meant a partial countermand to a government decree that prohibits first class travel by the head of state.

TACA airlines continually provides free passage to the Costa Rican government but does not include first class tickets.

President Pacheco got himself into hot water when it was discovered that he used tickets provided by TACA for his personal trip to Spain last December. The president admitted to using tickets provided by TACA for the San José - Miami - San José leg of his trip, paying out of his own pocket the rest of the way.
