Lawyer Fees Increased
As of today, hiring a lawyer will cost you more, due to an approval of an increase in rates lawyers can charge.

Guillermo Corella, president of the Colegio de Abogados, said that they new tariffs that cover lawyer's ffes on divorces, alimony payments, registration of vehicles and properties, for example, have been increased all professionals will have to respect it.

An example of the new rates is an action for alimony that would cost ¢10.000 colones yesterday, but now will cost ¢50.000 colones. Registering a vehicle will now cost at least ¢10.000 colones more in addition to the 1.5% of the value of the vehicle as set out by the Registro Público.

And a simple divorce - a divorce where both parties are in mutual agreement and there is no dispute on property - will now cost ¢75.000 colones, up from ¢20.000 colones lawyers charged in the past.
