Russia Aids Cubana Airline
Renewal
A loan agreement for purchase of
two Russian IL-96-300 planes to
be operated by Cuban airline
Cubana de Aviacion was signed by
Aviaimport (Cuba) and three
Russian banks Saturday.
Cuban Civil Aircraft Institute (IACC)
first vice president, Heriberto
Prieto, and Cuban Ambassador to
Moscow Jorge Marti were present
at the signing ceremony with
Russian banks Eximbank, Niestorg
Bank and Nieseconom Bank.
Also in attendance were business
people and an extensive media
representation.
The agreement constitutes the
first loan to stimulate export
operations of the Russian
aircraft industry, said Hector
Argiles, director of Development
of the Cuban Aircraft
Corporation.
Argiles said these planes will
be the first of its kind to be
exported by Ilushin-Finance Co.,
and are acquired as part of the
Cuban air fleet renovation to
further tourism in the island.
The first of the two IL-96-300
planes will arrive in Cuba
before year end, and the second
will be delivered at the end of
March.
