Man Burns Down Five Houses
Because They Wouldn't Give Him
"Guaro"
A 45 year old man, identified
only by his last name, Arrieta
Gutiérrez, was detained by
police suspected of setting a
fire that burned down five
hours, leaving 35 people on the
street, in Barrio Pinto, Montes
de Oca, in San Pedro.
Luis Ramírez Calderón, one of
the affected, in his story to
police, that with only five
minutes left in the Saprissa-Pumas
game, Arrieta had asked his 17
year old son and his friends for
some "guaro" while watching the
game. Since the boys weren't
drinking, they paid the man no
attention, he threatened to set
fire to the house.
Arrieta didn't lie, he kept his
promise. He set fire to the
house, including his own home
where he lived with his parents
and sister.
Firefighters took several hours
to put out the blaze that
occurred in the area of the
Zapote fairgrounds and members
of the Fuerza Publica had to
rescue the man from neighbours
who became to give him a
beating.
According to police, Arrieta has
a drinking problem and has is
known to police, where on seven
other occasions he was charged
for various offences, including
threats to burn down a home. On
other occasions, the man
assaulted his parents and had an
order placed against him not to
go near the home, which he did
not comply with.
