Solís Wants Taiwan's
Clarifications on Donations
The head of the Partido Acción
Ciudadana (PAC), Ottón Solís, is
demanding that the government of
Taiwan clear up it's financial
relations with Costa Rica.
In a meeting with Taiwan's
Foreign Minister, Tan Sun Chen,
while in Cost Rica, Solís
affirmed that the Taiwanese
government has financed
overpayment of salaries to
public officials of the
Cancillería (Costa Rica's
Foreign Ministry) as wells a
"prizes" to politicians and
political parties.
Solís who is in the running for
the presidential chair in the
2006 presidential elections (his
candidacy in the 2002 elections
forced an historic run off vote
that saw the election of Abel
Pacheco) said that in his
adminstration Taiwan's practices
could not continue.
The government of Taiwan has
made political contribution to
both the Partido Liberación
Nacional (PLN) y al Partido
Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC),
the two main parties who have
governed Costa Rica.
Solís said he and his party are
expecting an answer soon.
