High Cost of Living Distresses Ticos
The major current source of
anguish for Costa Ricans is the
ever increasing cost of living.
In fact, the income of 44% of the population does
not allow for the satisfaction
of their needs or they are
already enduring economic
straits. Another 47% are
barely making ends meet, while
only 9% admit that their
income fully satisfies all their
needs and that they have money
to spare.
These facts surfaced
in a recent survey and allow for
corruption, which last November
was at the top of Tico worries,
to drop to second place.
The
inter-annual inflation, which
was 11.34% in March 2004,
rose to 13.61%last
March.
Analysts say this
translates into the fact that
the actual income for workers
decreased by 1.84%, while
the prices kept on skyrocketing.
