Armoured Car  Abandoned By Gang Following Heist
A band of thieves yesterday were successful in heisting an armoured car operated by Wackenhut with an estimated ˘100 million colones (us$205.000) inside, but was later abandoned in a coffee plantation in Barrio Santa Teresita, in Aserrí, when the thieves couldn't open the doors to the loot and became nervous, pressured by the overflights of a helicopter.

The theft occurred in San José shortly after 1pm as the armoured car was taken from a BAC San José bank branch while it was making a shipment.. It was located later by a helicopter of the Ministerio de Seguridad, abandoned in the coffee plantation. T

The thieves took with them the driver as hostage, but released him, throwing him from the truck, a short distance later and continued on their way with the intention to empty it's vault.

The driver appeared beaten when he made his way to a nearby police stand, immediately taken to hospital, where he is being held under guard, police suspecting that he may have taken part in the heist.

Last June, a similar heist of an armoured car operated by Tecnopro occurred and the driver is being held as one of the suspects in that heist.
