Mayors of the World to Express
Solidarity with Cuba
The 13th Meeting of Town
Councils Cooperation and
Solidarity with Havana, from 25
countries, will take place in
the Cuban capital November
13-15, official sources said
Sunday.
At least 400 delegates including
mayors, vice mayors, city
councilors and governors will
attend the gathering and express
their condemnation of the US
blockade against Cuba, said
Havana Provincial Assembly of
the People’s Power (legislature)
International Relations director
Ramon Perdomo.
The council members will also
demand immediate release of the
Cuban Five, who have been
unjustly held in US prisons
despite the August decision of
the appellate court declaring
their trial and sentences null,
Perdomo added.
The visit is part of
celebrations for the 486th
anniversary of the foundation of
Havana on November 6, he said.
Havana is a member of the
Inter-municipality Organization
of Ibero-American Cities (OICI),
established in the Cuban capital
in 1938.
An OICI Congress in 1992 agreed
to celebrate meetings of
solidarity with Cuba as long as
the US blockade against the
Island is in force.
