Another Gasoline Price Increase
Approved
Yesterday, the Autoridad
Reguladora de Servicios Públicos
(Aresep) approved another gas
hike that will see the price of
a litre of gasoline jump ¢45
colones for super, ¢40 colones
for regular and ¢21 colones for
diesel.
The price increase was requested
by the Refinadora Costarricense
de Petróleo (Recope) in the face
of the rise in the price of
crude oil on international
markets.
The new increase when it becomes
official will go from the
current ¢434 to ¢479 colones for
a litre of super, regular will
jumot from ¢406 to ¢446 colones
a litre and a litre of diesel
from the current ¢297 to ¢318
colones.
To put into perspective, it will
cost an additional ¢2.035
colones to fill a 45 litre tank
for a total of ¢21.555. At the
beginning of this year, the same
tank cost ¢15.975 to fill.
The increase is not official
until it is published in the
official newspaper La Gaceta,
which is to be not later than
five days. Given the holidays
and the weekend, it is expected
to be published on Monday, which
means Tuesday the prices at the
pumps will be changed.
