Australian Fugitive Denied Entry
Australian fugitive Robert Hyde Andrew was rejected admission into Costa Rica following quick action by agents of the Dirección de Inteligencia y Seguridad Nacional (DIS) who work alongside immigration officials at the Juan Santamaría International (San José) airport.

Hyde is being sought by Australian officials after being sentenced to life inprisonment for drug trafficking. Australian officials say he was convicted of attempting to import several tons of marijuana resin back in 1996. Hyde was the captian of a the "Highlander" and attempted to make port with his cargo on several occasions coming from Canada. Hyde never made port as he was intercepted by Australian officials with a load of 8 tons of marijuana.

Hyde was not detained in Costa Rica since he was refused landing on Costa Rican soil and was returned to his originating country, Guatemala.
