Shocking, But True, Deputies
Were At Work Monday
Even though it sounds
unbelievable, Costa Rica's
legislative deputies were at
work on Monday following public
pressure not to take any more
holidays, in their last days of
sessions before the new
Legislative Assembly takes over
on May 1.
Forty-two of the fifty-five
deputies were at their desks
yesterday, missing were six from
the Liberación Nacional (PLN),
three independents, two from the
Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC)
and one Libertario (ML).
Deputies have been highly
criticized by citizens for
taking too much time off work.
During the last session, a
deputies were in recess or
vaction for seven straight
weeks, thus the decision to work
on Holy Monday was made by the
executive president of the
Legislature, though some
deputies don't comprehend the
move.
