Threat to Costa Rican Bound Plane Forces An Evacuation
A Continental Airlines plane bound for Costa Rica was evacuated at Newark Liberty International Airport yesterday after police received a telephone threat directed at the flight, but a search turned up nothing dangerous, authorities said.

Flight 1642, with 155 passengers and a crew of six, was due to leave Newark shortly after 8 a.m., but the threat kept the flight from leaving until 10:44 a.m. as Port Authority Police and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration checked the plane.

Bomb-sniffing dogs were deployed and passengers and baggage were taken off the plane.

"Everything checked out okay," said Pasquale DiFulco, a Port Authority spokesman. "We take all threats seriously. We follow strict standard procedures."
