Nicaragua Appalled at Mideast Crisis
The Nicaraguan government asserted Thursday it is deeply dismayed at the mounting death toll in the Middle East and demanded that the conflicting parties immediately stop military actions.

The statement spread by the Foreign Ministry urged for security and necessary guarantees to introduce UN staff into the region.

The text also buttressed UN Secretary General Koffi Annan when he said the Security Council must act quickly and firmly and reiterates the need to make effective collective mechanisms of UN System.

Since Israel launched in July its fierce ground and air attacks on Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, more than 900 people, mostly civilians, have died.
