Colombian Defender Transfers To Alajuelense Soccer Club
Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, the soccer club that was in third place in Costa Rica's 2005-2006 tournament, on Wednesday signed a transfer for Julio Romana, of Colombian soccer club Cucuta Deportivo, Romana told media at a press conference in San Jose.

"I can bring the club a lot of delivery and sacrifice. I will also try to achieve the goals sought by the coaching team, the governing board and the whole team," Romana said, adding that Colombian soccer manager Jorge Luis Pinto, who previously worked at Alajuelense, had recommended the Costa Rica team.

"I had already had a chance to work with Professor Cheche," said Romana, 32, calling Alajuelense coach Jose Hernandez by his nickname.

Romana has played with six clubs, helping one of theme to the 1999 Merconorte Cup, He will be ready to play within a week, after his international pass arrives and he has completed the registration process with the Costa Rica Premier League.

Alajuelense decided to hire a new defender after Luis Marin, the team captain, moved to an Israeli soccer club, and its younger defenders were injured during the under-20 World Cup qualifying games.
