Polls Gives Daniel Ortega Elections Win
Daniel Ortega, candidate for the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), would win today Nicaragua's presidential elections in the first round by 34.9 percent.

M. R. Consultores agency says in poll ran early this month with 4020 people at 74 municipalities at urban and rural areas that silent vote, abstention and the undecided (8 percent) would tip the balance towards the ex president.

The winner must score 35 percent plus the fair votes and beat the closest contender by five points but 40 percent win it would allow for an automatic election of the president and vice president.

However the conservative daily La Prensa talks of an eventual second round and gives Alianza Liberal leader Eduardo Montealegre 40.4 percent.
