Emergency Commission Maintains
"Green" Alert
Although the Instituto
Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) -
the weatherman - assures that
Tropical Storm Ernesto is
diminishing, the Comisión
Nacional de Prevención de
Riesgos y Atención de
Emergencias (CNE) is preferring
to keep a "green" alert.
The CNE says the measures is one
of prevention over the behaviour
of the rivers, especially in the
Caribbean area, following the
downpours of the last couple of
days.
'ErnestO' is now passing over
the eastern part of Cuba, in the
Guanatanamo area, and moving at
19 km/h towards the northeast.
Though the Tropical Storm did
not touch land in Costa Rica,
the storm did bring strong winds
and heavy rains in many parts of
the country. In Santo Domingo de
Heredia, a number of incidents
of roofs damaged by the strong
winds were reported over the
last couple of days.
Also in Heredia, the CNE
reported a mudslide in the area
of La Milpa where one home was
in danger of being completed
covered by the mudslide.
In Tibás, closer to San José, a
mudslide was reported at a local
factory, in addition to reports
of flooding in the areas of San
Diego and Tres Ríos.
The CNE maintains active
committees in all parts of the
country, ready to respond to any
type of emergency.
