Fire, blasts kill seven, injure 54 at Venezuelan market
A fire in Maracaibo in the western Venezuelan state of Zulia killed seven people and injured 54 others, said John Bravo, commander of the Maracaibo Fire Brigade on Sunday.

"A lady threw a box of fireworks... sparking a fire which triggered a series of explosions," said Bravo.

The fire and the consequent explosions began at the Apeja & Burdines Cooperative, a store at Maracaibo's central market, on Saturday when the market was in full swing. Sixty stalls at the market, 12 nearby houses and several shops were destroyed by the fire and explosions.

A child was among the dead, and the injured were taken to hospitals.

The Maracaibo city council was discussing a project on giving financial aid to the families affected by the incident.
