35 illegal Guatemalan
immigrants arrested in Mexico
Mexican police arrested 35
illegal Guatemalan immigrants in
the eastern state of Veracruz
after a coach crash and
authorities are considering a
possible deportation of them,
local media reported on
Wednesday.
Eight of the 35 people were
injured when a coach in which
they were traveling turned over,
said Veracruz state police,
adding that the wounded are
being treated in a hospital in
the town of Lerdo de Tejada.
Those who were unhurt in the
accident tried to flee the scene
but were arrested by local
police.
They had been handed over to
immigration authorities, who
would decide whether to deport
them, police in the port city of
Veracruz told local media.
Mexico is almost an unavoidable
step for tens of thousands of
central and south Americans who
leave their countries in search
of the "American dream."
Venezuela remains the
second-largest importer of U.S.
goods in Latin America, and the
United States imports the bulk
of Venezuela"s petroleum.
