Fidel: Energy Revolution
Ignited
President Fidel Castro
underscored the advantages
Cuba´s energy revolution and
alerted of the exhaustion of
world oil reserves.
At Friday ´s Round Table
program, Fidel stated the
country needed a faultless
energy system with enough
generation capacity.
Regarding the running energy
change process, started May 2004
when the Antonio Guiteras
thermoelectric plant broke down,
he said it´s running well and
will save a billion dollars a
year.
The Cuban dignitary criticized
the idea of building more
thermoelectric or electronuclear
plants to supply power while
stressing the necessity to seek
new methods such massive
introduction of generators and
wind power.
"Current global oil reserves are
drying up," emphasized the head
of state, questioning the
consumer model of wealthy
nations such the US, where 8.6
million oil barrels are wasted
every day.
Likewise, he condemned the first
world´s monopoly on nuclear
energy that impedes
underdeveloped nations from
acquiring that technology to
generate electricity and replace
oil.
