FMLN Descries More Salvadorians
to Iraq
El Salvador´s FMLN (Farabundo
Marti National Liberation Front)
condemned the Salvadorian
Congress decision on Friday to
send more soldiers to Iraq.
This is the only Latin American
country that has maintained a
military presence in the Arab
nation since August 2003, as
part of the occupation forces
headed by the United States, in
a war that is alien to us, the
FMLN asserted.
While the government asserts
that Salvadoran soldiers, who
rotate every six months, are
working in humanitarian aid and
reconstruction, the Front points
out support for the US
occupation has caused the death
of several Salvadorians, and
holds the administration
responsible.
The FMLN presented a bill to
abolish the decree authorizing
the leaving of the seventh
contingent of the Cuscatlan
Battalion, but it was not passed
by the Legislature.
