FMLN Stresses on Withdrawal
from Iraq
The Farabundo Marti National
Liberation Front call to
abrogate the law allowing to
send Salvadoran troops to Iraq
was rejected by the Government
Alianza Republicana Nacionalista
(ARENA).
ARENA Congressman Guillermo
Gallegos recalled that the
troops are just engaged in
reconstruction projects, but
remains the only Latin American
country with troops in Iraq.
The FMLN request was encouraged
by reports on the assembling of
a new military contingent to be
involved in which it defines as
"useless, unnecessary, inhumane
and immoral war."
This call joins request from
several social and non
governmental sectors opposing
the US occupation since April
2003 and the presence of
nationals in Iraq that violate
the Constitution.
A total of 15 US allies grouped
in the US-Britain led
international coalition already
withdrew their troops, among
other, because of domestic and
international anti-war criticism
and escalating resistance to the
invaders.
