Daniel Ortega Leads Nicaragua
Election
Five months before the
Nicaraguan presidential
elections, the Sandinista
National Liberation Front (FSLN)
runner Daniel Ortega is leading
electoral surveys Thursday.
Results of a CID-Gallup poll,
taken June 16-23, give the
Sandinista leader 23 percent of
the voting intention, seven
points more than the last sample
in April.
Ortega is followed by the
Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance
Eduardo Montealegre (17);
Sandinista Renovation Movement
Herty Lewites (15) and
Constitutionalist Liberal Party
Jose Rizo (11). Finally, Eden
Pastora, of the Christian
Alternative Party, is fifth.
The sample carried out among
1,180 people and with a 2.8
percent margin of error, also
revealed the FSLN as the
favorite political group among
Nicaraguans.
Faced with that panorama,
presidential nominees must still
win by 32 percent minimum, the
law established to reach the
presidency of the country.
