PETROCARIBE Remains Loyal to its
Principles
A year after its inception,
Petrocaribe has remained
faithful to its principles of
solidarity, access to
fairly-priced energy Resources,
as well as social and
technological projects.
Petrocaribe, a Venezuelan
initiative, is a regional
endeavor launched on Jun 29,
2005 with the support of 14
countries, as an alternative
trade policy for the
conservation of non-renewable
resources.
Haiti, which joined the project
recently, has already received
40,000 barrels of gas and 60,000
barrels of diesel, a part of
which will be donated, so that
boilers in local hospitals can
be operational.
Launched by President Hugo
Chavez as part of the Bolivarian
Alternative for the Americas
(ALBA), Petrocaribe aims to
contribute to energy security,
socioeconomic development and
integration in Latin America and
the Caribbean.
Members of the project are
Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas,
Belize, Cuba, Dominica, the
Dominican Republic Grenada,
Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Vincent
and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia,
St. Kitts and Nevis, Suriname
and Venezuela.
