Mex-Bolivia Defrost Energy
After being put on-hold for two
years, a hydrocarbon cooperation
agreement between Mexico and
Bolivia seems to be gaining
momentum to become a reality.
At the end of a meeting in La
Paz with his Bolivian
counterpart, Andres Soliz,
Mexico's Secretary of Energy
Fernando Canales announced that
the natural gas purchase/sale
agreement would be re-launched.
The accord, signed on May 2004
by Fox and then Bolivian
President Carlos Mesa, relies on
an ambitious program of Mexican
investment in Bolivia to extract
and process natural gas.
Characteristics of future
Bolivian liquefied gas export to
Mexico and of both countries'
participation in exploration,
production and processing
projects will be defined soon,
Canales said, La Jornada daily
reported.
He recalled that demand for
natural gas is very strong in
Mexico and it is possible to
import it from Bolivia and Peru,
where he is now on a visit to
negotiate similar agreements.
