Guatemalans Welcome Venezuelan
Oil Aid
Guatemalan mayors highlighted
the Venezuelan government's
willingness to supply cheap oil
to Guatemalan municipalities,
mainly those living in poverty
or extreme poverty.
In a press conference in
Guatemala City, the mayors
announced the signing of an
energy cooperation agreement in
June between the Federation of
United Municipalities of
Guatemala and the Venezuelan
government for the sale of fuel
at preferential prices, with 60
percent of the price to be paid
within 90 days and the remaining
40 percent in 20 years, on a
one-percent interest rate.
The agreement is a result of the
visit paid by the mayors to
Venezuela in Apr 17-18, looking
for aid to face the energy
crisis triggered by increased
oil market prices.
