Uncertainty Reigns in Nicaragua
Twenty four hours before the
Nicaraguan elections, few will
risk a prediction on who the new
president will be.
Academic Arturo Cruz says it s a
toss-up, but local expert Oscar
Rene Vargas has no doubts that
the leader of the Sandinista
National Liberation Front Daniel
Ortega will win on Sunday.
Surveys do not count for much in
Nicaragua and even the
candidates do not trust them.
The true survey will be at the
polls says Ortega, running
against rightwing leaders
Eduardo Montealegre and Jose
Rizo, central-leftwing economist
Edmundo Jarquin and former
guerrilla Eden Pastora.
