New Anti-violence March in El
Salvador
Hundreds of Salvadorians will be
once again protesting violence
and organized crime in the
country Sunday, two scourges
considerably affecting the
population in general.
The rally, organized by the
Diocese in the city of Sonsonate,
about 40.3 miles west of the
capital, will also condemn the
recent assassination of Father
Antonio Romero, and demand
punishment for those responsible
for the crime.
Romero was killed along the road
linking the cities of Sonsonate
and Acajutla on September 25,
when he was brutally beaten on
the face with a big stone.
The demonstrators and many
social sectors have reiterated
the father´s consecration to the
most needed.
Official figures reveal that
each day, 12 people are killed
in the country, and about 500
attacks reported, using firearms
in most of the cases.
El Salvador is Latin America´s
most violent country, with
reports of 55 homicides per each
1,000 inhabitants, far exceeding
the average in the continent.
