Caja Ordered To Include Viagra On List of Essential Medications
The Sala Constitucional (Constitutional court) or Sala IV as it is also referred to decided in favour of a man suffering from erictle dysfunction in ordering the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) to provide him Viagra.

The man had been refused the drug by the CCSS and made an appeal to the constitutional court.

The CCSS has been ordered to include Viagra on the list of "essential medications".

The court orders the Comité Central de Farmacoterapia, and the heads of the Departamento de Farmacoepidemiología and the la División Médica to provide the pills to patients who meet the medical requirement for the medication.

Karen Vargas, of the División Jurídica de la CCSS (legal department), said that her office will ask the court to clear up some doubts her department has over the ruling.

The CCSS said it will not decide on the distribution of the pills until the legal department has had its answers.
