Argentine President in Venezuela
to Talk Trade
Argentinean President Nestor
Kirchner arrived in the
Venezuelan region with major
industrial potential, Bolivar
State, for a 48-hour visit on
Tuesday to boost bilateral
cooperation.
The visit is expected to be
crowned with the signing of
agreements with Argentina's
dairy cooperative SANCOR and the
purchase of 10,000 tons of beef
and 5,000 tons of poultry this
year.
It includes housing development
in Venezuela, while Argentina's
oil company ENARSA will invest
in the Orinoco Oil Strip.
The talks also cover
construction of the 4970.96 mile
gas pipeline as part of the
South-South energy cooperation
strategy sponsored by Venezuela.
Argentina's experience will help
expand agriculture and livestock
in Venezuela's Andean area to
help recover a sector neglected
for many years by emphasis on
oil.
In terms of finances, there is
expectation for joint
Venezuela-Argentina emission of
a southern bond worth one
billion dollars.
The agreements will help expand
trade from 100 million dollars
in 2003 to some one billion
dollars in 2007.
The new accords attest to the
awareness of Southern Common
Market members on the need to
engage in a new type of
cooperation, based on solidarity
and complementing each other as
part of the process of regional
integration.
