BRASILIA, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The main runway in Sao Paulo's Congonhas airport was reopened Friday 10 days after TAM Airlines' Airbus 320 landing accident killed some 200 people.

Brazil's new Defense Minister Nelson Jobim headed an inspection on Friday morning of the runway and the fuel-station destroyed by the aircraft in the accident.

Jobim, former president of Brazil's Federal Supreme Court, assumed the post on Wednesday to replace Waldir Pires, who was strongly criticized after the deadly crash.

A TAM Airbus A-319 coming in from Florianopolis was the first airplane to land after the Congonhas airport runway reopened at 12:23 local time  on Friday.
