ILO
Could Give Costa Rica the Boot
Before
leaving for the annual International Labour
Organization (ILO) meeting in Geneva Monday,
Costa Rican Labor Minister Francisco Morales
recognized that his nation may have to answer
denunciations by Costa Rican unions and social
organizations.
In all probability, the ILO will call upon Costa
Rica to respond for not respecting agreements 87
and 98, referring to freedom of union membership
and the public sector collective convention,
Morales admitted.
Last year an ILO special commission visited the
Costa Rica and expressed concern about
non-ratification of said accords, and lack of
union progress in private companies.
Costa Rica figures on the list of nations that
may be called to respond in Geneva and, the
annual ILO convention which began on May 31 and
runs until June 15, could call on its member
countries to analyze this matter.
