Costa
Rican Bananas Fuel Brain Power
Bananas empower university students to overcome
the stress, fatigue, and pressures of university
life in a healthy way. Bananas helps students
concentrate, memorize, and manage stress and
nervousness. Additionally, bananas help them
recover from the revelry after exams.
The potassium found in bananas can help students
remain more alert and focused without the
negative side effects of coffee.
As an essential mineral for the body, potassium
regulates nerve impulses and sends oxygen to the
brain allowing students to be more alert and
more relaxed in order to think clearer.
The antioxidants found in bananas increase brain
power and memory by clearing away the rogue
molecules that damage or destroy brain cells.
As the pressure of exams, tests, and papers
begins to build, reaching for a banana is an
easy and natural way to cope with stress and
give students the energy to keep going. Bananas
are rich in vitamin B which is known to have a
calming effect on the nervous system. The
carbohydrates in bananas provide students with a
quick energy boost. Unlike sugar, bananas also
provide a sustained release of energy and will
not cause you to feel fatigued.
Once the exams are over and it is time to
celebrate, the power of the yellow fruit should
not be forgotten. Alcohol is known to dehydrate
the body which then causes the many painful side
effects associated with hangovers. To avoid the
pounding headaches, make a banana cocktail
consisting of one banana, honey, and milk. The
banana will help balance out fluid and sugar
levels, the honey will calm the stomach, and the
milk will soothe and re-hydrate the body.
While Costa Rica bananas offer all the
nutritional benefits of other bananas, Costa
Rica bananas maintain high quality standards,
environmental protection, and sustainable social
conditions for its workers.
Costa Rican banana workers enjoy higher wages
and better social services than in many other
banana producing countries.
Though it may be the world’s third largest
banana exporter, Costa Rica dedicates less than
1% of the national territory to the banana
production and has transformed 25% of the
country into protected natural parks, thanks to
intense reforestation projects.
Corbana research centres are developing stronger
banana species in order to limit the use of
agrochemicals and guaranteeing better ground
sustainability.
Corbana plantations recycle 100% of their
organic waste, 97% of the plastic materials
(such as the protective bags used to wrap banana
racemes) and have reforested 95% of the
riverbanks. These standards are comparable to or
better than those applied in similar European
industries.
