Costa Rican lawmakers are proposing legalizing
same-sex civil unions, though the legislation

Alterra
Receives Ultimatum
The government is standing firm on the Alterra
situation, yesterday telling the builder and
manager of the Juan Santamaría (San José)
international airport it has 60 days to being
forward as solution to the stalemate, which is
threatening to remove Alterra with a new airport
manager and contractor.
Income Tax
Collection Increased By 42%
An effort by the government to collect more
income tax dollars has shown success as the
Ministerio de Hacienda (Revenue ministry)
reports a 42% increase in collections for the
first five months of the year, over the same
period last year.

Day To Go Back To Being Celebrated on August
15th

almost official, Mother's Day moves back to
being celebrated on August 15th, following a
vote of approval by the legislators of the
Comisión de Asuntos Sociales.
Some
Downtown Traffic Lights Out All Day, Due to Old
And Deteriorating Equipment
Many
streets of downtown San José, like Avenida
Segunda (Second Avenue), have two sets of
traffic lights - the old that are being phased
out by the news one. Yesterday, neither of the
two systems were working, provoking chaos in the
centre of town.
