is that an employee earning ˘200.000 colones
(us$387.60) per month will see an increase of
˘10.200 colones (us$19.76).
The workers unions had asked for a 7.1% increase
while business had offered 4.91%.
An agreement was reached during the week and the
announcement was made yesterday.
An announcement of public sector employees is
expected during the coming week.
Government workers and unionized private sector
employees are accustomed to the twice yearly pay
hikes, the first taking effect on January 1 of
the year and the second on July 1.
The salary hike applies only to unionized
private sector workers. However, non-unionized
businesses use the increase as guideline to
offer raises to their employees.
