Time To Enjoy
"El Veranillo de San Juan"
The
following days are known as the "veranillo de
San Juan" in Costa Rica, a time when the rains
subside and the sun shines hot and bright, a
name for the season given by Costa Ricans
coinciding with the dia de San Juan (St. John's
Day), June 24th.
Meteorologist Evelyn Quirós explains that the
Veranillo de San Juan is atmospheric phenomenon
where the sun mover northward and strengthens
certain atmospheric systems with high pressures
and strong winds, creating the summer solstice
in the northern hemisphere.
In Costa Rica it is known as the short summer in
the middle of the winter or rainy season.
The Veranillo de San Juan is a short dry season
that can last anywhere from one to four weeks.
However, predictions are that this year it will
be very short, lasting only a few days.
