Nicaragua Censures UN Sanctions on Iran
Future Nicaraguan Ambassador to the United Nations Aldo Diaz Lacayo criticized on Sunday the new sanctions approved by the UN Security Council (SC) against Iran, considering they have a geopolitical background.

We should see what the geopolitical objective of the resolution is, because when someone studies international geopolitics, realizes that Iran is an essential part of peace and stability in the Middle East, Diaz Lacayo told the local press.

The Nicaraguan diplomat also considered that the decision made on Saturday by the UNSC has a different objective from that it wants to show through the media.

Diaz Lacayo said the sanctions imposed on Iran, due to its effort to produce enriched uranium to develop nuclear energy, seek to place the Persian nation in the position to negotiate regional peace and stability.

The new Nicaraguan ambassador to the UN believes Tehran has the right to access nuclear energy with peaceful objectives, as any other country does.

The resolution against Iran, boosted by France, Germany, and Great Britain, was unanimously voted on Saturday by the 15 SC members.
