Four Women Dead in Four Days From Domestic Violence
During the last week a wave of passional crimes has hit the country, leaving four women dead at the hands of their lovers, in the last four days. And in the place of being killed in the home, all four deaths occurred in the open streets, in view of the public.

Last year 35 "femicidios" (femicides) were recorded. This year to date, the number is 5.

The four women are identified as Sheilin, Rosa, Sonia and Wendy. The lives of all four women were taken from men who professed their love, converting into assassins.

The first case was of Sheilin, 19 years of age, who has her throat cut when she rejected the proposal of engagement by a man who then killed himself with the same knife moments later. The murder/suicide occurred in Guarari de Heredia.

Saturday, Sonia Hernandez was gunned down by her lover in Limón. The man shot Sonia twice in the chest at point blanl.

Sunday, Rosa, in front of the Correos de Costa Rica (post office) building in the heart of downtown San José was shot at point blank. The man then turned the gun on himself in front of his daughter and his two step daughters.

According to police, the couple had been separated and Rosa had a restraining order against her better half. Both were Nicaraguan nationals.

And, Monday, in Tibás, north of downtown San José, Wendy was shot by her boyfriend. Wendy was rushed to hospital where she later died. The boyfriend then took his own life. Again, the murder/suicide was carried out in the open public.

It appears that domestic violence has gone from fists to knives and guns and from the privacy of the home to the openness of the street.

Authorities worried about this growing trend are asking what can be done to curb this trend.
