Ortega Works for Central America
Integration
Nicaragua's President Daniel
Ortega exhorted all Central
American countries on Thursday
to work for integration, at a
moment of exceptional conditions
for the unity of the Latin
American peoples.
"These are really exceptional
moments for Latin America, and
for the first time we have
conditions for integration and
unity of the peoples," stated
Ortega addressing on Wednesday
the Central American Parliament
(PARLACEN).
According to the Nicaraguan
president, "we have been
creating mechanisms of
integration in the subcontinent
that are truly taking us to the
Latin American unity."
The Sandinista leader, who spoke
in the solemn session of the
sub-regional legislative body
temporary meeting in Managua,
lamented, however, the Costa
Rica refuses to join those
efforts.
"We lament Costa Rica s
absence," affirmed Ortega, who
criticized that country s
President Oscar Arias, whom he
accused of having abandoned
those commitments when he signed
the 1987 Esquipulas peace
accords.
The Sandinista head of State,
who took office on January 10,
talked of the need to continue
fighting to foster the PARLACEN,
which was defined as the most
important point of the Central
American meeting.
