Guatemala Fires 120 Detectives
In its purification process, new Guatemalan Interior Ministry authorities will purge 120 detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (DINC) for corruption or poor work, National Police director Julio Hernandez announced on Friday.

DINC is facing a serious credibility crisis after it was verified that four DINC members were the actual perpetrators of the murder of three Salvadoran legislators and their driver on February 19.

The crime and the later execution of the Guatemalan agents in a maximum security prison provoked a scandal which motivated the resignations of the Guatemalan Interior minister and directors of the police and penitentiary system.

In April, 561 police officers were fired for failures or serious infractions, and it was then announced that between 1,200 and 1,500 more might also be fired.
