Sales On The Increase
The escalating price of gasoline if forcing many
Costa Ricans to trade in their four wheels for
two.
Retailers of scooters and motorcycles (motos)
reported an increased demand for their two
wheeled vehicles.
In 2006, retailers reported sales of 30.000
motos, while sales for the first quarter of 2007
surpassed 10.000 units.
Other than the high cost of gasoline to fill the
large tank of a four wheeled vehicle, there is
also the price difference of purchasing a moto.
A new moto, on average, costs about ˘500.000
colones (us$970. dollars) and much easier and
less costly to service and maintain.
For instance, a moto can travel about 30
kilometres on just one litre of regular
gasoline.
