Over 2 tons of cocaine seized in Venezuela

Over 2 tons of cocaine seized in Venezuela
Venezuelan authorities seized 2.6 metric tons of cocaine on Saturday, state media reported.

The drugs, hidden in empty glass containers, were seized in Puerto Cabello, a major seaport, and National Guard officials said the shipment was destined for Mexico.

Venezuela is a major transit point for drug-traffickers to smuggle cocaine from Colombia to the United States and Europe.

Last month, Venezuela criticized a U.S. report listing it as a nation failing to meet drug enforcement standards.

Venezuela rejected the report, saying it was politically motivated and insist that recent large seizures demonstrate they are making strides in fighting drug-trafficking.
