At a meeting of representatives of 18 institutions, they reported that the ¢20 billion is available for the government's use to deal with the more than ¢35 billion in losses estimated.

Representatives of the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) took the opportunity to explain the conditions of the roads across the country, explaining that a major road in Barva de Heredia and the one in the southern zone are completely closed, severely damaged, while all other routes are open, though some have regulated passage.

Daniel Gallardo, president of the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE), said the money will be used first to feed and house the more than 2.000 affected that are living in shelters. Gallardo explained that it will take years to completely repair the damage caused by the emergency.

The CNE will be focusing priorities on communities hardest hit, like Filadelfia in Guanacaste, and is asking residents of other communities to be patient as help will get to all, assured Gallardo.
