Heavy Rain and Flooding Caused Damage in Many Parts of the Country
The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) - National Emergency Commission - said yesterday in a statement that it will be heading out to Heredia and other parts of the country to assess the damage caused by the latest pounding by heavy rains.

Heredia, north of San José, was the hardest hit over the weekend and heavy rains and raging rivers damaged a number of bridges and flooding homes and in one case tearing apart a complete section of the roadway.

CNE president, Daniel Gallardo, met with the mayors of Barva and Santa Bárbara, located north of Heredia centre, was well as the mayors of Heredia Centre and San Rafael.

The large amount of trash in the rivers added to the problems of landslides and flooding provoked by the tropical storm that passed over Costa Rica Sunday and Monday.

Another tropical storm is headed for Costa Rica on Friday and CNE officials are asking for residents to take action to prevent more damage.

In the Cuidad de Flores, as Heredia is known, 17 homes were flooded and five families lost everything.

Damage from the heavy rain was also reported in Tilarán in the Guanacaste province; Grecia, northwest of San José; and in the Central Pacific region, especially the Quepos area, along road between San Miguel and Dos Bocas.
